Happy (late) January friends! The first 29 days came and went a little too quickly for my liking, and there is certainly no sign of things slowing down.

Beyond making smoothies, joining gyms, and finally starting journaling again, we’ve spent this past month reflecting on the past and thinking about the future. And given much of our time is focused on helping organizations with transformation, it’s part of our DNA to think about how we continue to evolve our own world of work.

With that in mind, we’ve built upon our fourteen-year history and entered 2020 with an exciting new roadmap.

  • Website Refresh: When you visit IA, you’ll notice a new look and feel. We recognized an opportunity to clarify the message of who we are and what we do, and we’re thrilled with the results.
  • Introduction of Practices: With that clarification came refinement to the way we approach our services. Our elements of change are now organized into three primary practices – Strategic Services, Provider Relations, and Continuous Improvement. We will dive deeper into each of these practices throughout the year, but we encourage you to read about them now.
  • The Voice of HR: We want to engage more actively with you, the voice of HR. In the past, we’ve been able to share some great content for you to consider, but now we want to talk to you about it. So please message us on our social media channels or reach out directly. You’ll also see more webinars, Twitter chats, conference presentations, and general chatter from our amazing thought leaders.
  • The War on Talent Skills: Our 2020 research focus will offer new insight on the market’s rapid evolution from the decades old war on talent to a growing and global war on skills. We have entered a new era of work that demands a common taxonomy and foundational rethinking of how, a) work is produced and sustained; and b) workers are assembled, rested, and reskilled. We’re excited and also more than a little concerned, and we will share our findings throughout the year.

Have a wonderful day, keep in touch, and join me in celebrating our next decade of work together.
All my best,
—Mark

On Our Radar

When you’ve been in this business as long as we have, you start to see implications on the employee experience in all sorts of places. This month, we focused on the human element of what it means to “work.”

  • You can never really go wrong with Ben Franklin. In this article from Inc.com, learn about the simple psychological technique that Franklin used to build relationships with even his most vocal opponents. There are probably business units in your company that could use this advice.
  • Open offices have taken over the floor plans of most organizations, but are they having the intended effect? Harvard Business Review would say the answer is no. There is a better way to foster a collaborative environment that will boost results AND save your employees’ sanity.
  • And finally, business travel is the reality for many workers (#FlightMares, anyone?). But it might not be the team building activity you’re hoping for. This post from PeopleResults explores the best ways to travel with colleagues.
